Dry Boat Storage:
With the advent of cars and the rapid increase in the volume of vehicles in circulation, the idea of rationalising urban space quickly became a necessity. Underground car parks were the result. Now with a boom in nautical activities and an ever-increasing number of boats– partly due to a dramatic rise in motor yachting and the development of large pleasure vessels -the same is about to happen for boats. Under the BlueRing project, marina space and the coastal environment have been fully rethought, and a daring solution to the imbalance in supply and demand for marina space has been developed. A large capacity dry boat storage area (boat park) is concealed beneath the BlueRing marina basin.
Car Park:
BlueRing includes a car parking facility based on the idea of a circular car park. Cars park on a spiral ramp structure, which offers the advantage of not requiring supporting columns between spaces. This facilitates circulation in the car park and ensures an optimum use of space. In the centre of the ring, a large light shaft allows extra natural light to enter, reducing any possible claustrophobic sensation that being underground may create.
Boat Yard:
BlueRing also offers the possibility of integrating a boat yard into the facility. The complex’s ring-shaped design allows many different configurations of varying dimensions to be implemented and thus makes a diverse range of alternatives possible.Setting up a boat building and repair unit within the BlueRing facility is one of the complex’s potential uses.
